2010 Gala Dinner & Silent Auction

The Scituate Library Foundation is proud to annouce Linda Barnes as its Guest Author for the 2010 Gala Dinner & Silent Auction, Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Barker Tavern in Scituate.

About Linda Barnes:

linda_barnes_photo_web.jpgLinda Barnes has written 16 mystery novels, 12 featuring her 6'1" redheaded Boston private eye Carlotta Carlyle, and four featuring actor/detective Michael Spraggue, an amateur sleuth. In addition to best selling mysteries, she has also written award-winning plays and short stories.

Barnes's celebrated Carlotta Carlyle first appeared in 1985 with the award-winning short story Lucky Penny. Since then, Barnes has written 12 Carlotta Carlyle mystery novels: A Trouble of Fools (1987), The Snake Tattoo (1989), The Boston Globe bestsellers Coyote (1991) and Steel Guitar (1993), Snapshot (1994), Hardware (1995) and Cold Case (1997), which also appeared on The Boston Globe bestseller list. Flashpoint came out in 1999. The Big Dig was published in 2002, followed by Deep Pockets in 2004, Heart of the World (2006), and Lie Down with the Devil (2008) available on Amazon.com.

Among her many honors, Barnes won the Anthony Award and nominations for both the Shamus Award and the American Mystery Award for Best Short Story for Lucky Penny in 1985. In 1987 she received the American Mystery Award for Best Private Eye Novel and nominations for the Edgar, Anthony, and Shamus awards for A Trouble of Fools. The Snake Tattoo was named one of the outstanding books of 1990 by The London Times.

About the Gala

During the past eight years the SLF's black-tie optional Gala has become “the social and cultural event of the year" in Scituate. Dick Lehr adds his name to an impressive list of previous authors that has included: Dick Lehr, Hank Phillipi Ryan, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Dennis Lehane, Brian McGrory, William Martin, Leigh Montville, Bill Littlefield.

Through the generous support of Scituate residents, friends and merchants, the Gala and subsequent Silent Auction, have raised over $200,000 for the SLF’s Endowment Fund.

2010 Silent Auction

When Is the 2010 Silent Auction?
On Friday, September 10th, the Scituate Library Foundation will hold its Eighth Annual Gala Dinner & Silent Auction at the Barker Tavern in Scituate. The autcion is held on-site during the Gala, however, the Foundation Board of Directors distributes a Sealed Bid Form to interested bidders who are unable to attend the Gala but want to access the silent auction items. The Sealed Bid Form will be available on September 1, 2010 at the Scituate Library and as a download file here.

How Does the Sealed Bid Form Work?
Following the closing of all on-site bids at the Gala, all sealed bids will then be opened and compared. The highest bidder wins the auction item. In the event of tying sealed bids, the earliest time/date stamp of receipt at the Library will be considered the item winner. The deadline for submitting the Sealed Bid Form is Thursday, September 9th at 5:00pm at the library.

What Happens if I Don’t Win the Item?
All non-winning bids will have their Sealed Bid Form(s), check or payment information returned to them immediately following the Gala. NOTE: Checks will be returned uncashed and none of your financial information will be recorded by the Foundation.

The Scituate Library Foundation Annual Silent Auction is off to a great start. To submit a bid on any of the items listed below, download, print and complete the required information on the Sealed Bid Form. Deadline for bids is Thursday, September 9th at 5:00pm at the library.
